Africa Express – Africa Express Presents...Terry Riley's In C, Mali

Amazing, hypnotic, awesome version of Terry Riley’s ‘60s classic.

Steve Pescott

(1) Eyeless in Gaza - Mythic Language (3cd) - A Scale Records.

An excellent set of previously unissued material from a British art pop duo who sadly, didn't get the major accolades they richly deserved....

(2) Ed Askew - Ask the Unicorn L.P. - Tin Angel Records.

A reissue from the great ESP imprint, circa '68. And about time too! People have been waiting for this for over forty years!

(3) Graham Bond - Live at the BBC and other stories (4cd) - Repertoire Records.

Full of natural goodness. The G.B. biography needs to be republished.

(4) Iron Butterfly - Ball/Metamorphosis (cd) - B.G.O. Records.

Post Gadda reissues...Ball remains to this day, an undervalued chunk of moody blather....

(5) Spirit - At Ebbett's Field (cd) - Good Shop Funke Records.

The still sorely missed Randy California's consummate skill still shines through this live set.

(6) Pekka Airaksinen - Buddhas of Golden Light L.P. - Arclight Editions Records.

This reissue from '84 is quite possibly one of the weeerdest albums I've heard in a long day's march. Them crazy Finns!

(7) Lamartine - Reportage L.P. - Finders Keepers Records.

Way off kilter library music from the continent.

(8) Various Artists - Brown Acid L.P. - Riding Easy Records.

Greasy-haired U.S. hard rock no-goodniks from the early seventies. Contains the glories of Punch (Death Head) and Josefus!!!

(9) Midnight - Into the Night L.P. - Drag City Records.

A private press reissue from 1977. A little bit of Pentagram infatuation with a Doors aftertaste. Cover art uses 'Old English' typeface without apparent irony.

(10) Cosmic Ground 2 Self-titled (D.L.P.) - - Deep Distance Records.

The work of Dirk Jan Muller. Four side-long tracks of a mid-period Tangs and Ash Ra nature.....
